What types of audio devices can I hook up to CrankCase?
Easily installed on handlebars or other spots within easy, safe reach, CrankCase™ works with virtually any portable stereo radio, or MP3, CD or cassette player featuring a standard 3.5mm mini-plug headphone jack. For the relatively few devices manufactured with the newer 2.5mm stereo jacks, adapters are available from electronics stores. CrankCase™ also works with many conventional car stereo or amplifier setups on bikes, ATVs and other powersports vehicles when the devices have standard line-level outputs. In addition, the output amplifier designed into CrankCase can drive standard portable headphones. In fact, if wired properly, CrankCase enables you to control volume on your in-helmet headphones, as well.

Can I use any personal stereo with CrankCase?
You can use CrankCase™ with virtually any personal radio, or CD, cassette or MP3 player equipped with a standard 3.5mm mini-plug headphone jack. As noted above, for the relatively few devices manufactured with the newer 2.5mm stereo jacks, adapters are available from electronics stores. Products with "floating ground" amplifiers, such as very low-end FM radios, may not work optimally with MHI audio components.

Can CrankCase be used with a conventional AM/FM car stereo or amplifier?
Yes, CrankCase™ works with any car stereo or amplifier equipped with line-level inputs or outputs.

Will CrankCase work only with Rumble Road speakers?
No, CrankCase™ features line-level inputs and outputs to enable the device to work with most any amplifier or amplified speaker assembly – not just product manufactured by MHI.

How big is CrankCase? How much does it weigh?
The small-footprint billet aluminum case measures approximately 1.7" wide by 1.8" high and is 1.3" deep without the knob and mounting hardware, which altogether increase depth of the unit to 3.4". CrankCase™ weighs 6.3 ounces, including built-in connection wires.

Where can I install CrankCase? Can I install it on my bike's handlebars without drilling holes?
Easily installed on 1" handlebars or other spots within easy, safe reach, CrankCase™ is compact enough to fit just about anywhere. The device measures approximately 1.7" wide by 1.8" high and is 1.3" deep without the mounting hardware (3.4" width). Handlebar mounting without drilling holes in the bar is possible using the custom two-piece hardware included with each CrankCase. Standard 10-32 mounting holes are machined into the back of each unit for ease in mounting using the exclusive bracket and backstrap packaged with each CrankCase™.

Can I connect CrankCase directly to the battery?
CrankCase™ is switched, fused (5 amps) and ready to wire either directly to a 12-volt battery or to another 12-volt source on your bike, such as an existing accessory line or headlight power line. CrankCase™ includes a switched and fused power line output wire, which allows you to then use CrankCase™ to control your bike’s other electronic devices – such as an amplifier or powered speakers (available from MHI). The output amplifier also is designed to drive standard portable headphones. If you need assistance, your local automotive sound shop or motorcycle dealer should be able to help you find a suitable power source, as well as properly install the system.

Will CrankCase work with two sets of speakers?
Yes! Some of our customers have cleverly installed "quad" mounts – one pair of Rumble Road™ speakers on the handlebars and an opposing pair astride the passenger seat. If you still can’t quite picture it, this approach is beautifully illustrated by one of our customer testimonial montages. Each pair of Rumble Road™ Premium speakers draws about 5 amps peak from the battery. You will need to install one CrankCase™ per each pair of speakers that you want to both power and drive.

Is CrankCase waterproof?
CrankCase™ is water-resistant, meaning that it can tolerate splashed water, but it is not literally waterproof and cannot tolerate submersion. For enhanced protection from the elements, the unit’s case and backplate are precision-machined billet aluminum for an exceptionally tight fit. The backplate is secured by screws at six points. If you do suspect water damage, allow the unit to dry out over a day or two and re-power the system.

Is CrankCase prepackaged with mounting hardware, or do I have to order hardware separately?
For your convenience, each CrankCase™ includes a custom mounting bracket and backstrap ready to install on 1" handlebars. The removable two-piece clamp makes it easy to mount CrankCase™ on handlebars other than standard 1" if you choose to use your own hardware.
